The Fondation Beyeler devotes their hitherto top-class exhibition to Pablo Picasso’s early paintings and sculptures from the so-called Blue and Rose Periods (1901-1906). The masterpieces created in this important period, all of which are milestones on Picasso’s journey to becoming the most famous artist of the 20th century, will be displayed together for the first time in Europe in this density and quality. The paintings of this creative period are among the most beautiful and most emotional of the modern age. They are also among the most precious works of art and are not expected to be seen together in one place in such abundance.
